Empowering Communities through Multi-Sectoral Programs!

Action Africa Help Uganda (AAHU) is a humanitarian organization that has been operating in Uganda since 1993, providing assistance to refugees and vulnerable communities in various parts of the country. Over the years, AAHU has implemented a comprehensive multi-sectoral program funded by UNHCR to provide humanitarian assistance to more than 300,000 refugees and asylum seekers from different parts of Africa, including South Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya. One of the unique features of AAHU’s programs is their community-led and results-oriented interventions that promote sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the refugees and the host communities. AAHU’s programs cover a wide range of areas, including essential services such as health, education, water, sanitation, and hygiene. The organization also provides community services and protection, livelihoods and food security improvements, energy and environmental management, and logistical support for humanitarian services. AAHU’s community-led approach to programming empowers the refugees and the host communities to take an active role in identifying their needs, developing solutions, and implementing the programs. This approach ensures that the interventions are tailored to the specific needs of the communities, which increases the chances of success and sustainability. The organization’s commitment to promoting community participation is evident in the various capacity-building initiatives that AAHU implements. Through community capacity-building programs, AAHU trains community members on various skills, such as leadership, entrepreneurship, and conflict resolution, to enhance their ability to participate in decision-making processes and take a leading role in the development of their communities.
