It’s open to the public for tours, lunches, dinners, events, conferences, and even overnight stays. You’ll be blown away by the sheer beauty and intricate details of the house, which has been inspired by various architectural styles from across the African continent. The house’s design is influenced by towering mud structures like the Great Mosque of Djenne in Mali, the mud palaces of Morocco, Swahili architecture of the East African coast, and traditional houses of Ghana and Burkina Faso. The combination of these different styles creates a truly unique and unforgettable experience.African Heritage House is also home to a vast collection of artifacts, artworks, antique weaponry, ceremonial costumes, jewelry, textiles, brassware, and traditional pottery. With thousands of pieces on display, visitors can indulge in the rich cultural heritage of Africa. The history of African Heritage in Kenya is a fascinating one. Alan Donovan arrived in Kenya in 1970 and spent most of his time with the Turkana people of Northern Kenya, collecting art and material culture from this nomadic tribe. In 1972, he held his first art exhibition in Nairobi, where Joseph Murumbi and his wife Sheila were in attendance. Mr. Murumbi was an art connoisseur and one of the greatest art collectors of African art, who promoted African culture. Together, Donovan and Murumbi established African Heritage, a gallery where African artists could sell and showcase their works, promoting and preserving African art and culture.African Heritage also established a cultural outreach program known as Kenya’s African Heritage Festival, which traveled the world promoting Kenyan tourism and African culture. The troupe included models, dancers, musicians, acrobats, and others showcasing a collection of authentic African costumes and fashions created from hand-woven and hand-printed textiles of Africa. In conclusion, African Heritage House is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in African architecture, art, and culture. With its rich history, unique design, and vast collection of artifacts, it’s a truly unforgettable experience.
