African Women and Youth Action for Development (AWYAD) is a shining light in the fight against poverty, exploitation, and abuse of women and youth in East and Central Africa. The late Rev. Fr. Johannes Prus Joseph Van Deven, who founded the organization in 2010, had a strong passion to support vulnerable women and youth who are faced with marginalization and discrimination.Believing in the special power women hold, he put women at the forefront of the organization leadership and management.With very experienced directors, management, and staff, AWYAD has technical expertise in the fields of Gender, Human Rights, Emergency Response, and Education.Over the years, AWYAD has become a recognized institution in areas of emergency response, advocacy, and education work, all attributed to its unique program design and community-based approach.AWYAD operates nationally, with a strong presence in the Northern, Western, Eastern, and Central parts of the country. Through its various programs, AWYAD empowers women and youth to take charge of their lives, become self-sufficient, and contribute to the development of their communities.One of the unique programs offered by AWYAD is emergency response. With the increase in natural disasters such as floods, drought, and disease outbreaks, AWYAD has been on the forefront in providing humanitarian aid to affected communities. Through partnerships with other organizations, AWYAD has been able to provide food, shelter, and medical assistance to those in need.Another area of focus for AWYAD is education. The organization has set up schools in remote areas, where access to education is limited. By providing education to children, especially girls, AWYAD is contributing to the development of the region by equipping young people with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life.AWYAD is making a difference in the lives of vulnerable women and youth in East and Central Africa.
