Located just 22 kilometers from Nairobi, Alliance High School stands tall as one of Kenya’s most esteemed national schools. Since its inception in 1926, this institution has been instrumental in shaping the minds of generations of students, offering a comprehensive 8.4.4. curriculum that has empowered countless individuals to pursue their dreams.Alliance High School owes its origins to the visionary collaboration of the Alliance of Protestant Churches. Comprising the Church of Scotland Mission (later known as the Presbyterian Church of East Africa or PCEA), Church of the Province of Kenya (CPK), African Inland Church (AIC), the Friends Church (Quakers), and the Methodist Church, these faith-based organizations joined forces to establish a secondary school that would provide Africans with a quality education. During the early colonial era in Kenya, the prevailing belief among the colonialists was that Africans did not require education beyond a basic level. However, the missionaries strongly opposed this notion, recognizing the transformative power of education for the African populace. They faced numerous challenges, including a lack of funding, in their efforts to establish primary schools. In 1913, Dr. John Arthur, in charge of the Kikuyu mission, organized a conference with other Protestant missions to address these obstacles.Following the conference, the Alliance of Protestant Missions was formed in 1918, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of quality education for Africans. Dr. Arthur, an influential figure, lobbied the British government to grant Kenyans and all Africans access to primary, secondary, and tertiary education. His relentless efforts paid off when the Devonshire White Paper was written in 1923, guaranteeing Africans the right to education.Undeterred by the lack of government support, Dr. Arthur took it upon himself to establish a high school for Africans in Kikuyu. On 1st March 1926, Alliance High School was inaugurated under the auspices of the Alliance of Protestant Missions.This historic event marked the birth of a renowned institution that would go on to shape the academic landscape of Kenya.Over the years, Alliance High School has remained committed to its mission of providing a holistic education to students.
