Busolwe General Hospital

Busolwe General Hospital, located in the heart of Busolwe Town, Butaleja District, is a public hospital owned by the Ugandan Government and administered by Butaleja District Local Government. Established in 1970, the hospital has been serving the community for over five decades, providing healthcare services to residents of Busolwe and its environs.The hospital has a strategic location in the town’s central business district, making it easily accessible to those in need of medical attention. Although the hospital’s infrastructure has not received any refurbishment or re-equipping since it was commissioned, there is a glimmer of hope for the future.The Ugandan Government signed a debt swap agreement with the Kingdom of Spain in 2008, creating a Trust Fund to construct and equip Kawolo General Hospital and Busolwe General Hospital. The fund’s resources are expected to be used to renovate and remodel the hospital in the next four years. The proposed renovations include the construction of a new emergency department, trauma ward, maternity ward, operating rooms, and a mortuary with cold facilities. Additionally, new staff housing will be built, existing staff housing renovated, and water sources rehabilitated.Busolwe General Hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the community is unwavering. Despite the current infrastructure challenges, the hospital’s staff works tirelessly to ensure patients receive the best possible care. The hospital also plans to procure an ambulance for emergencies and a double cabin pick-up for outreach services to reach those in remote areas.As of July 2019, the renovations have not been carried out yet, but the hospital remains dedicated to its mission of providing affordable and accessible healthcare to the people of Busolwe and its surroundings.
