Centenary Bank

Centenary Bank, one of Uganda’s largest and oldest commercial banks, has a rich history of over four decades in providing financial services to the public. Originally established in 1983 as a credit trust, Centenary Rural Development Trust (CRDT), the bank began offering financial services to the public two years later in 1985.In 1993, the Bank of Uganda granted Centenary Bank a commercial banking license, making it a fully licensed commercial bank. Since then, the bank has grown in leaps and bounds, establishing itself as a leading financial services provider in Uganda, with a significant focus on promoting development through loans to rural farmers, processors of agricultural produce, small traders, small manufacturers, importers, and exporters.Centenary Bank has also demonstrated a commitment to innovation and leveraging technology to enhance its services. In 2017, the bank partnered with Intrasoft International S.A. to launch a new core banking platform. It also signed a partnership with Mastercard to develop a broad suite of new mobile banking solutions and a deal with WorldRemit to allow transfer from the remittance service.In May 2020, the bank launched instant paperless accounts for the unbanked Ugandan population, a significant milestone in the bank’s efforts to promote financial inclusion.Centenary Bank’s headquarters is located in Mapeera House, on Kampala Road opposite City Square, and it has a vast network of 63 bank branches and 157 linked automated teller machines in the Central, Western, Northern, and Eastern Regions. As of December 2021, the bank’s assets were UGX:4.8 trillion (US$1.359 billion), with shareholders’ equity of USh789.52 billion (US$222.78 million), reflecting its robust financial performance and solid market position.Overall, Centenary Bank has demonstrated a commitment to driving economic growth and promoting financial inclusion in Uganda, making it a valuable partner for individuals and businesses alike.
