Driving Collective Action for Social and Economic Justice in Uganda!

Climate change is not just an environmental issue; it is also a social and economic justice issue. The impacts of climate change are felt most acutely by vulnerable communities, who often lack the resources to adapt to the changing climate.Climate Action Network-Uganda (CAN-U) recognizes this, and is working to drive collective and sustainable action to fight the climate crisis and achieve social and economic justice in Uganda.Founded in 2009 by a group of organizations and individuals led by OXFAM, CAN-U is now a national network of more than 200 civil society organizations and individuals spread all over the Geo-political regions of Uganda.CAN-U’s vision is to contribute to a world that is actively striving towards achieving the protection of the global climate in a manner that promotes equity and social justice, sustainable development of people, and protection of the environment.CAN-U works on a broad range of climate action issues at local, national, regional, and global levels, contributing towards the global goal of reducing carbon emissions and resilience. CAN-U’s core work is on climate research and development, climate advocacy and campaigns, and capacity building.Through its climate research and development program, CAN-U conducts research on the impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities in Uganda, and develops strategies to mitigate those impacts. CAN-U also works to build the capacity of local communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.Through its climate advocacy and campaigns program, CAN-U works to influence policies and practices that contribute to climate change, and to promote sustainable practices that reduce carbon emissions.
