East African Civil Aviation Academy

The East African Civil Aviation Academy, also known as the Soroti Flying School, is a premier institution in Uganda for aviation training. Located at Soroti Airport, in the town of Soroti in the Eastern Region, this school offers exceptional training for aspiring aircraft pilots and maintenance engineers. The academy has a rich history, having been founded in 1971 under the Directorate of Civil Aviation of the EAC. Over the years, it has produced some of the best pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers in the region, and continues to do so to this day. Currently, the school is undergoing renovations to become a center of aviation excellence in the region. With the recruitment of new technical staff, including a Director, a Quality Manager, a Safety Manager, a Chief Engineering Instructor, Flying instructors, Ground instructors, Engineering instructors, and Flight Operations Instructors, the academy is poised to provide world-class training to its students. As of May 2018, the school had nine training aircraft, and during the calendar year, nine pilot-trainees, seven aircraft maintenance engineers, and fourteen flight operations officers completed their training. Another fifteen pilots, fifteen flight operations engineers, and five aircraft maintenance engineers were expected to graduate during the second half of 2018. The academy’s commitment to excellence is evident in its plans to expand its training programs to include pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers from the UPDF Air Force, Uganda National Airlines Company, Uganda Police Air Wing, Ugandan Presidential Fleet, and Commercial and General aviation. This will save Uganda millions of dollars in foreign exchange, currently spent on procuring this training outside the country. Overall, the East African Civil Aviation Academy is a fantastic institution that provides top-notch aviation training to its students. With its rich history and commitment to excellence, it is no wonder that it is considered one of the centers of excellence in the EAC.
