Description

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF KENYA.

Hidden on 40 acres of a former coffee plantation, the International School of Kenya (ISK) has been a beacon of educational excellence for the past 46 years. Our picturesque campus has served the educational needs of both expatriate and Kenyan students, offering a challenging North American curriculum coupled with the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma program.ISK traces its roots back to 1967 when the late Nancy Ellen Crooks founded the US Community School. Recognized for her unwavering passion for education, Mrs. Crooks became the first principal and dedicated herself to meeting the educational needs of Kenyan and expatriate children in Nairobi. Starting in a house near the Nairobi Hospital, the US Community School laid the foundation for what would become a remarkable educational journey. In 1970, the school was acquired by the United States International University (USIU) and relocated to its current location at the end of Peponi Road. It was then renamed Nairobi International School (NIS) and expanded its grade levels from 4th Grade to 12th Grade, even offering college courses. Despite modest beginnings with just a white wooden house and two stone buildings, the potential for a school like ISK was evident. The turning point came in 1976 when the Nairobi International School was renamed the International School of Kenya. With 485 students enrolled, ISK embarked on a journey to establish its identity and create a nurturing environment for international education. In 1982, ISK introduced its first International Baccalaureate class, marking a significant milestone in the school’s commitment to academic excellence. Since then, ISK has flourished as one of the world’s premier and most diverse international schools, attracting students from all corners of the globe. Our growth is not only reflected in the increasing student population but also in the construction of world-class facilities. From our state-of-the-art Middle School building to one of Nairobi’s finest swimming pools, ISK has continuously strived to provide students with a conducive learning environment. As we celebrated our 45th anniversary in the 2021-2022 school year, ISK faced unprecedented challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic. However, our commitment to excellence and innovation remained unwavering. ISK adapted swiftly by implementing innovative teaching methods and ensuring the safety of our students was paramount. Our dedication to continuous improvement has enabled us to navigate through uncertain times while delivering an exceptional educational experience. Today, the International School of Kenya stands tall as a symbol of academic distinction, cultural diversity, and unwavering commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow. With a legacy built on excellence and a future guided by innovation, ISK continues to be a premier destination for students seeking a truly international education experience.
