Kiwoko Hospital, located in the Nakaseke District of Uganda, is a private community hospital affiliated with the Church of Uganda. It was founded in 1991 by Ian Clarke, a general practitioner from Northern Ireland, with the aim of providing quality healthcare services to the community. Today, the hospital is administered by the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau and operates with donations made to the Friends of Kiwoko Hospital.With 250 beds, Kiwoko Hospital is a haven for those seeking medical attention. The hospital boasts a laboratory, a laboratory assistant training school, a nurse training school, and an active community-based healthcare program. In November 2021, the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was recognized as a center of excellence in newborn health by the Ministry of Health of Uganda.Kiwoko Hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services has been evident since its inception. The hospital was named the Barbara Kelly Memorial Hospital in memory of a visitor who died in the area. Construction of the hospital’s first permanent building began in 1990 with an initial £25,000 donation. Two years later, and through continued donations, the hospital was completed and opened by the then-vice president of Uganda, Samson Kisekka.Kiwoko Hospital’s dedication to providing quality healthcare services has seen it establish partnerships with organizations such as Adara Development. This has enabled the hospital to expand its reach and provide medical attention to more people.The hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services has seen it grow and become a beacon of hope for those seeking medical attention in the region.
