Kyambogo College School, a government-aided mixed day school located just 8km east of Kampala District, has a rich history that dates back to 1954. Starting as a small demonstration Junior Secondary School, the school was founded with the primary motive of giving college tutors and student teachers an opportunity to carry out demonstration lessons.Over the years, the school has grown and expanded, and today it is an “O” and “A” levels secondary school with a student population of 1700 boys and girls of S.1 to S.6. The school has 96 teachers, 17 non-teaching staff, and 36 support staff.In 1965, when the Government Teacher Training College became the National Teachers’ College, Kyambogo Demonstration School continued to serve the new college as before. However, its status rose from that of Junior to an “O” Level Secondary School. Mr. Jack P. Carey, a speech Training Tutor at the National Teachers’ College (NTC) was appointed Headmaster of the new Secondary School, of Senior One and Two with a small staff and student population of 10 and 160 respectively. Most of the school staff was spouses of tutors at the N.T.C.The school continued to flourish, and in 1984, it was upgraded to “A” level status. Today, the school has over 40 male and female teachers, and its curriculum and co-curricular activities have expanded to include 13 traditional School subjects and games, including athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, handball, chess, and other indoor games.The school’s humble origins and growth into a premier secondary school in Uganda is a testament to the commitment and dedication of the school’s leadership, staff, and students. Kyambogo College School is a school that has a rich history and a bright future ahead.
