Luigi Giussani Schools

Located in the heart of Kireka, a slum east of Kampala, the Luigi Giussani Schools have a unique story that sets them apart from other schools in Uganda. Founded by Rose Busingye, a Ugandan nurse, the school was built on the request of the women in the community who were in need of a place where their children could receive a quality education.What started as a simple kindergarten in 2004 has now expanded into a wonderful primary and secondary school that welcomes over 500 students every day. The school’s philosophy is centered on the belief that education is a discovery of oneself and one’s own value, and this is reflected in the way the school is run.The school’s founder, Rose, had originally dreamed of building a hospital in the community, but the women convinced her that what they really needed was a school. With determination and hard work, they managed to raise the funds necessary to build the school, including making and selling 48,000 necklaces with the help of friends overseas and volunteers from the AVSI Foundation.Today, the Luigi Giussani Schools are a beacon of hope in Kireka, providing children with an education that empowers them to become future doctors, nurses, teachers, social workers, and more. With a serene environment and a commitment to excellence, the school is truly making a difference in the lives of the children and families it serves.
