Maendeleo Foundation.

Pioneering Innovative Solutions for Access to Education in Uganda!

Maendeleo Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been working tirelessly to bring progress to the lives of Ugandan students and communities. The name “Maendeleo” means “progress” in Swahili, and it is at the core of all the work and innovations that the foundation has implemented since its establishment in 2007.The foundation was founded by Eric Morrow, an American software developer who visited Uganda and was struck by the lack of access to technology and education in the country. Working with a Ugandan Development Economics student and an experienced relief worker, they sketched out a plan to bring computers to Ugandan schools and communities in a cost-effective and sustainable way.One of the biggest challenges that the team faced was the lack of infrastructure in the country, with only 5% of Ugandans having access to electricity and just 3% being able to afford it. This meant that the technology solution had to be self-powering and self-contained. Despite this challenge, the foundation has been able to develop different ICT projects that support people of all ages, from primary school students to adult members of the community. One of the main goals of the Maendeleo Foundation is to provide access to technology and education to those who would otherwise not have it. Through their innovative solutions, they have been able to empower students and communities to learn and grow in ways that were previously impossible. The foundation has made significant progress in advancing education in Uganda, and it is a testament to their commitment to progress and innovation.
