Description

Moi Forces Academy.

Moi Forces Academy, located in Nairobi, is a distinguished educational institution that has its roots deeply embedded in the vision of His Excellency, the Former President Hon. Daniel T. arap Moi CGH. The Academy was established in response to a heartfelt request made by the Nursery School Children at the Moi Air Base. These young children sought a school closer to home to avoid the long commute to distant primary schools. Recognizing the importance of education and the welfare of the youth, His Excellency the Former President took immediate action to fulfill their plea. The journey began on 9th June 1979 when His Excellency conducted the first Harambee Funds Raising event, successfully raising an impressive sum of Kshs. 7.8 million. This marked the foundation of Moi Forces Academy, with the construction work commencing on the same auspicious day. The initial phase of the school, completed by Danny Construction Company at a cost of Ksh. 7 million, saw its primary division open its doors to eager standard one pupils on 11th February 1980. Shortly after, the Academy expanded its horizons, welcoming Form one students on 18th February 1980 and Form five students on 6th May 1980.Moi Forces Academy was envisioned as a Center of Excellence for the children of the Armed Forces, with a mission to provide exceptional education and shape future leaders. The institution initially operated as a mixed boarding secondary school, accompanied by a day primary division. Situated on a generous 56-hectare plot of land donated by the Kenya Air Force, Moi Air Base, the Academy has flourished over the years. In 1989, the Academy seamlessly transitioned from the previous education system to the 8-4-4 system, further enhancing the quality of education offered. In 1990, the secondary division underwent an important transformation, becoming exclusively for boys, while the girls were transferred to Moi Forces Academy – Lanet. At present, the secondary division proudly boasts six streams in Forms 2 to 4 and an impressive seven streams in Form 1. The division’s infrastructure includes two dormitory blocks, each consisting of three houses named after renowned Military Barracks: Moi, Eldoret, Lanet, Nanyuki, Mombasa, and Langata. Within each house, three wings provide a nurturing environment for the students. The secondary division also features twenty-nine classrooms, six laboratories, two workshops, a Home Science block, an ICT Laboratory, and a library. To cater to the needs of the entire Academy, a centralized kitchen and dining hall are in place, ensuring nutritious meals for all.Moi Forces Academy stands tall as a testament to the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, the Former President, to education and the holistic development of the Armed Forces’ children. It continues to inspire and mold generations of students, fostering a culture of excellence, discipline, and patriotism. With its rich history and outstanding facilities, Moi Forces Academy remains an esteemed educational institution dedicated to shaping the future leaders of Kenya.
