Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School.

Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School, established in 1979, holds a significant place in the educational landscape of Kuria West Sub-county, Migori County, East and Central Africa. With a captivating history and a commitment to academic excellence, this Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) sponsored institution has become a beacon of knowledge and character development for its students. The school’s foundation can be traced back to the visionary leadership of Honorable Walter Mwita, the then managing director of African Retail Traders (ART). With his determination and foresight, Hon. Mwita acquired the land on which the school stands today. Alongside esteemed community leaders such as Ancent Mang’are and Vincent Mang’are, he rallied support and expanded the school’s premises by acquiring additional land from Mr. Chacha’s families. Initially, Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School operated as a Harambee school, driven by the collective efforts and contributions of the community. Recognizing the potential and importance of quality education, Hon. Mwita approached the Rt. Rev. Henry Okullu, the Bishop of Maseno South ACK church, to sponsor the institution. The church wholeheartedly embraced the proposal, leading to the official registration of the school in 1980.Under the leadership of its first Principal, Mr. Eliakim Odhiambo, who was appointed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC),the school embarked on a journey of growth and transformation. The committed Board of Management (BOM) chairpersons, including Hon. Ancent Mang’are and later Hon. Walter Mwita, played instrumental roles in steering the school towards progress. The initial single stream of students gradually expanded to double streams and eventually evolved into the current triple streams, accommodating a larger student population. In its early stages, the school relied on the spirit of Harambee to construct its infrastructure. The humble beginnings included a small administration block, two classrooms, and a principal’s residence. However, through continuous efforts and the support of various stakeholders, Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School has flourished.Presently, it boasts 20 well-equipped classrooms, two laboratories, a library, a computer lab, a home science room, a 700-capacity dining hall, several departmental offices, seven dormitories, a sickbay, an administration block, and nine teacher’s houses.Over the years, the school has been privileged to have a series of remarkable principals leading the institution. Mr. Eliakim Odhiambo, who served from 1980 to 1988, laid a strong foundation for academic excellence. Subsequently, Mrs. Janet B. Onyango, Mrs. Florence Omondi, Mrs. Millicent Odhiambo, Mrs. Anne Mosenda, and currently, Mrs. Debora Amuka, have all contributed their expertise and guidance, fostering a culture of learning and personal growth. Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School hosts a vibrant community of 622 students. The school’s faculty comprises 22 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) teachers, seven BOM teachers, and 22 dedicated support staff members. Recognizing its exceptional performance and dedication to quality education, the school has progressed from a Harambee school to a district school, a provincial school, an extra county school, and ultimately, in 2015, to a national school. The school’s success is not only attributed to its infrastructure and academic achievements but also to the unwavering support and goodwill of the local community, prominent leaders, and other stakeholders.Furthermore, the ACK Diocese of Southern Nyanza ensures that spiritual nourishment and guidance are integral parts of the students’ holistic development.Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School continues to uphold its legacy of providing quality education, molding young minds, and preparing future leaders. With its rich history, commitment to excellence, and the strong support it receives, the school remains a cherished institution within East and Central Africa’s educational landscape.
