Nakaseke General Hospital:

A Lifeline to the People of Nakaseke

Nakaseke General Hospital is a rural public hospital situated in the heart of Nakaseke District, in the Luweero Triangle of Uganda. The hospital has been serving the people of Nakaseke District since the 1960s, and over the years, it has expanded to serve patients from neighboring districts of Luweero, Wakiso, Nakasongola, and Mityana.The hospital played a significant role during the National Resistance Movement War in the early 1980s, where it served as a major health facility for the NRA guerrillas. The then Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Ronald Bata, was recruited into the guerrilla force and became their chief medical officer.In 2013, the government of Uganda borrowed money from the World Bank to renovate and construct certain hospitals, including Nakaseke General Hospital. The hospital underwent a massive renovation process, which included the construction of new outpatient and emergency departments, a diesel generator building, a placenta disposal pit, and a laundry facility for patients’ families. The hospital also built new physician residences and staff houses and renovated six existing staff residences.Nakaseke General Hospital is now better equipped to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Nakaseke and neighboring districts. The hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including general surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, and obstetrics. The hospital has state-of-the-art equipment, including CT scan machines, ultrasound machines, and laboratory equipment that enables the medical staff to provide accurate diagnoses and effective treatment.The hospital has also put in place measures to ensure patient safety and comfort. The hospital has installed ventilated improved pit latrines for patient families and outpatients, and patients’ families can now enjoy meals in the newly built kitchen and dining room.
