Nakawa Vocational Training College (NVTC)

Nakawa Vocational Training College (NVTC) is an outstanding public institution offering vocational training to individuals and industries in Uganda. Established in 1971, NVTC was born out of a bilateral cooperation between the Governments of Uganda and Japan, with the aim of upgrading the skills of workers in industries to address job challenges arising from changing technology in enterprises. The institute started with four trades and has since expanded to offer training in several fields, including Electricity, Metal Machining, Motor Vehicle, Welding and Fabrication, Electronics, Woodworking, and Sheetmetal. NVTC has received support from the Governments of Uganda and Japan over the years, with the aim of rehabilitating and expanding the Institute facilities, providing additional equipment and tools, and training personnel (instructors and managers) staff. The support has also facilitated the training of over 452 youths and 165 workers from industries. Through its Third Country and In-country Training program, NVTC has spread out to the entire sub-region, with instructors from Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Eritrea, and Host Country Uganda participating. The college has also been instrumental in developing the capacity of the institution for human resource development, responding to the needs of the private sector, through the Technical Cooperation project on TVET Leading Institutions Expansion of Human Resource and Skilled Workforce Development for Industrial Sector in Uganda (TVET LEAD). The project supported the institution to become a vocational college offering qualifications aligned to the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework (UVQF) Level IV. NVTC’s core objectives are focused on providing vocational skills training for employment entry, career growth and development, upgrading the graduates of the BTVET institutions from craft level to technician level of the UVQF, providing upgrading training for workers in industries to cater to the needs of growing industries, and upgrading the skills of in-service instructors of BTVET Institutions. These objectives are aimed at providing excellent vocational training, research, and consultancy for career growth and national development, making NVTC a leader in vocational skilling for empowerment and transformative development. Overall, Nakawa Vocational Training College (NVTC) is a top-tier vocational training institution, providing unique opportunities for individuals and industries to upgrade their skills and compete effectively in the changing job market.
