The National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE) is a leading organization dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to Uganda’s most pressing environmental and economic issues.For over two decades, NAPE has been at the forefront of environmental activism, conducting research, developing science-based strategies, and engaging government officials at all levels.Founded in 1997, NAPE has established itself as a reliable and independent voice in the fight for environmental protection in Uganda. The organization’s primary goal is to ensure that government actions and policies prioritize sustainable development, with a focus on the preservation of natural resources and ecosystems.One of NAPE’s key strengths is its ability to mobilize affected communities and work in partnership with other civil society organizations and international organizations to advocate for environmental justice. The organization’s approach is grounded in science and data, and it has developed a reputation for conducting thorough research on the environmental impacts of proposed projects and policies.NAPE’s advocacy efforts have led to the implementation of several policies and laws aimed at protecting Uganda’s environment. For instance, the organization played a significant role in the establishment of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in 1995, which has since become a critical player in environmental regulation in Uganda.NAPE’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental justice has made it a trailblazer in environmental activism in Uganda.
