NATIONAL TEACHERS COLLEGE-MUBENDE.

NTC Mubende, established in 1984 by the Ugandan Government, is a leading institution in producing high-quality grade five teachers. Its main focus is to provide education to children in lower secondary schools across the country. What sets NTC Mubende apart from other institutions is its ability to adapt to the changing times and demands of the education sector.Initially, NTC Mubende was housed in a building formerly used as a night club. However, as the college expanded, the premises became inadequate to meet the demands of the growing student population. The college management, in partnership with development partners, took a bold step and relocated the college to the Namagogo site, where they took advantage of the unfinished but habitable building structures in place.Today, NTC Mubende has grown significantly, with the support of the government of Uganda and the Ministry of Education and Sports. The college now boasts of more than 640 students and is expected to enroll more than 1500 students after the current construction and renovation exercise. The college will also begin to offer degree programs in response to the changing needs of the National Teacher Policy.NTC Mubende’ success can be attributed to its pioneer leadership, including the late Mr. Kavulu David, who was the first Director/Principal of the college. Under his leadership, the college enrolled its first 34 students, and over time, the student population increased, leading to the need for expansion.NTC Mubende’ commitment to providing quality education is evident in its partnership with Makerere University and later with Kyambogo University to award diplomas to its graduates. The college has also expanded its programs to include the in-service training of grade three primary teachers, who upgrade to grade five and go back to teach in primary schools across the country.In conclusion, NTC Mubende is an institution that has overcome numerous challenges to become a pioneer in teacher education in Uganda. Its commitment to quality education, innovation, and adaptation to the changing times and demands of the education sector is commendable. The college’s growth and expansion signify a bright future for the institution and the education sector in Uganda.
