Nkumba University (NKU)

Nkumba University (NKU) is a leading national, regional and global hub for academic and professional excellence in Uganda. Established in 1994, the university has a rich history dating back to 1951 when a kindergarten was established by Ssalongo Kintu, Charles Kisitu Ffulu, and Zefania Mpanga. Today, NKU is one of the largest private universities in East Africa, with over 7,000 students and 300 academic staff.NKU is a private, non-denominational, non-profit, and non-secular institution that accommodates several religious associations. The university has a Vision to be a leading national, regional and global hub for academic and professional excellence and a Mission to provide an environment that enables the cultivation of competence, confidence, creativity, and character in academic, professional and social interaction.The university is located on Nkumba Hill in Wakiso District, approximately 12 kilometers north-east of Entebbe International Airport, along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, the second-largest freshwater body in the world. The campus provides a serene environment for students to learn and grow.The university offers courses leading to certificates, diplomas, baccalaureate degrees as well as postgraduate academic qualifications. NKU has graduated close to 30,000 students over the past 27 years. The university was among the first in Uganda to introduce the Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum studies, mineral management, and technology, with the inaugural intake occurring in 2011. A master’s degree in the same field is in development.The university has a strong leadership team, led by Chancellor Emmanuel Katongole, who is also the Chairman of the Uganda National Oil Company. Prof. Jude T. Lubega, the 5th Vice Chancellor of NKU, is a Professor of Information Technology who has vast experience in ICT4D. He is also an experienced ICT4D consultant and has undertaken numerous researches and projects both nationally and internationally.In summary, Nkumba University is a top-notch academic institution in Uganda that offers quality education and professional training.
