Located in Nairobi, Kenya, Rosslyn Academy is a renowned international school with a rich history that dates back to Tanzania in February 1947. Originally known as Mara Hills Elementary School, it started humbly with just four pupils and a dedicated teacher in a small mud-walled, thatch-roofed building. The school was established outside the Serengeti to combat the prevalent malaria in the region.As the school gained recognition for its commitment to education, it experienced rapid growth. In search of a more central location with improved healthcare and transportation, the Mennonite Mission Board decided to relocate Rosslyn Academy to Nairobi, Kenya. In 1967, the school found its new home on a 20-acre coffee plantation, purchased from British Major General Charles George Phillips. Following the American educational system, Rosslyn Academy began offering education up to the eighth grade. However, as demand increased and partnerships formed, the school expanded its curriculum. In 1975, the Southern Baptist missions joined, and the ninth grade was added. The Assemblies of God followed suit in 1988, with the vision of establishing a high school.Significant milestones shaped the trajectory of Rosslyn Academy. In 1991, the first senior class graduated, and the school received accreditation in 1992. With the construction of new facilities, the high school’s capacity doubled, accommodating students from diverse international backgrounds. While upholding its Christian educational mission, Rosslyn transformed from a mission-based institution to an international Christian school. Today, Rosslyn Academy stands as a vibrant and established Christian international school, catering to over 650 students from missionary, diplomatic, and business communities. The school’s success lies in its strong foundation rooted in its Christian heritage.
