Making a Difference in Uganda!

Save the Children has been a key player in Uganda’s development since 1959, and their impact on the community is undeniable. The organization works hand in hand with the government, civil society, and the private sector to provide quality education, healthcare, and child protection services to the most vulnerable in society. Their education programs focus on improving access to quality learning by training teachers, building infrastructure, providing equipment, and promoting inclusive education. Save the Children recognizes the importance of early learning for children under six and helps older children who dropped out of school to return to education. These initiatives are critical in Uganda, where access to education is often limited, especially for girls. The organization’s health and nutrition programs aim to improve maternal and newborn health by supporting rural clinics with equipment, medicine, and training. Save the Children runs feeding programs for malnourished children and mothers, promotes breastfeeding, and provides sexual and reproductive health information to adolescents. These interventions have had a significant impact on maternal and child health outcomes in Uganda. Child protection and child rights governance are also a top priority for Save the Children. They empower children to know and demand their rights, and to raise their voices to people in power. The organization works to strengthen local and national child protection systems, make schools and other facilities safer, and provide safe spaces for the most vulnerable children. Through their efforts, Save the Children has helped protect countless children from exploitation and abuse. Finally, Save the Children recognizes the importance of youth livelihoods and child poverty. They help families escape the cycle of poverty by providing vocational training and equipping youth with the skills they need to earn a sustainable income. The organization also supports community savings and loans groups to invest for the future and set up small businesses. Save the Children’s work in Uganda directly reached 440,000 people last year, including 300,000 children, and indirectly benefited a further one million. Their programs have made a significant impact on the lives of many, and their commitment to creating lasting change is evident in all they do.
