Soroti Airport

Soroti Airport is a vital gateway to Eastern Uganda, located approximately 290 kilometers from the country’s capital, Kampala. The airport, with its asphalt runway and apron, can handle aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 737. The airport’s location at an altitude of 3,697 feet above sea level offers a spectacular view of the surrounding hills and valleys.

History

Soroti Airport has a rich history as a training facility for pilots. It was originally built as a school for the British Overseas Airways Corporation to train their pilots in tropical flying techniques. Later, the East African Civil Aviation Academy used the airport to train pilots from the East African Community.

Flying School

Today, Soroti Airport is home to the Soroti Flying School, which provides training in instrument and multi-engine ratings. The school has dormitories, food service, and classrooms, providing a comfortable and conducive environment for learning.Airlines and DestinationsCurrently, there is no scheduled airline service at Soroti Airport. However, non-scheduled flights are available through Eagle Air Uganda.

Runway Characteristics

The airport’s main runway, with an orientation of 05/23, is 1860 meters long and 30 meters wide. The runway’s asphalt surface ensures that it can handle aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 737 without any damage to the surface. The airport’s altitude of 3715 ft. above sea level makes it a popular destination for aviation enthusiasts.
