Established in 1959, the Aga Khan High School, Kampala has stood the test of time as Uganda’s first multicultural school. The school’s mission is to produce students who are intellectually inquisitive and socially conscious, and who can analyze what they do not know. The school achieves this by adopting the best international and contemporary teaching and learning methods, as well as educational leadership philosophies.
The Aga Khan High School, Kampala offers both national and international curriculums, and propels its students to become top performers nationally and internationally. The school strives to create a harmonious balance between academic demands, sporting and cultural activities, and community life. The Aga Khan approach to education emphasizes the development of critical thinking and analysis, as well as respect and appreciation for other people’s cultures, social structures, values, and beliefs.
The school believes that equipping students with these tools is essential for them to succeed in school, society, and an increasingly interdependent world. The Aga Khan High School, Kampala is part of the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), which has a long tradition of leadership in educational development. Under the guidance of Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah, Aga Khan III, over 200 schools were established during the first half of the 20th century, with the first schools being established around 1905 in Zanzibar, Gwadar (Pakistan), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Mundra (India).
The Aga Khan High School, Kampala has a rich history of producing talented young men and women who have gone on to key universities and positions internationally, taking with them the skills and confidence nurtured at Uganda’s first multi-cultural school.
The school is managed by AKES, which currently operates more than 200 schools and several educational programs that provide quality pre-school, primary, secondary, and higher secondary education services to more than 75,000 students in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, and Madagascar.
