Description

Uganda Christian University (UCU)

Uganda Christian University (UCU). This private university, founded by the Anglican Church of Uganda in 1997, is administered by the Church of Uganda and was the first private university in Uganda to be awarded a charter by the Government of Uganda.UCU’s main campus is located in Mukono, just a short 25-kilometre drive from Uganda’s capital city, Kampala, along the Kampala-Jinja Highway. With approximately 8,000 students, the campus is bustling with academic activity and provides a serene and conducive environment for learning. But UCU’s reach extends far beyond Mukono. The university has several regional campuses, including Bishop Barham University College in Kabale, UCU Mbale Campus in Mbale, and UCU Arua Campus in Arua. In addition, a permanent fifth campus is currently under construction in the Mengo neighborhood of Kampala.UCU’s origins can be traced back to the Bishop Tucker Theological College, established in 1913 and named after the pioneering missionary bishop Alfred Robert Tucker. Today, UCU continues to uphold the high standards of academic excellence set by its predecessor. The university’s distinguished reputation is further bolstered by its chancellor, the Archbishop of Uganda, currently held by Stephen Kaziimba since March 2020. With a long list of distinguished chancellors dating back to the university’s inception, UCU remains a top-tier institution that any student in Uganda should consider.
