Empowers Youth to Drive Sustainable Development!

Uganda Pioneers’ Association (UPA) is a youth voluntary non-governmental organisation that has been working tirelessly to empower young people in Uganda since 1989. With eight branches scattered throughout the country, UPA has been successful in its mission to create opportunities for young people to contribute to community projects through work camps and international volunteer exchanges. UPA’s work is centred around empowering, training and sensitising the youth on a range of topics including HIV/AIDS, gender, democracy, peacebuilding, and cultural heritage. Through their nationwide three-week work camps, UPA provides volunteer labour and skills through grassroots development projects such as construction, agriculture, sanitation, and environmental projects. These projects are essential to drive sustainable development and improve the lives of the communities they serve. In addition to their work camps, UPA also runs a mid and long term volunteer programme, which is an international volunteer exchange programme that promotes intercultural learning, understanding and skills development among the youth. The programme is managed by UPA through hosting international volunteers sourced from their international voluntary service partners including the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Services (CCIVS), Alliance Network, Welwarts Initiative (EUAV), Mondo Estonia, ADICE – France and others. UPA’s commitment to empowering young people is evident through their work, and their dedication to providing opportunities for young people to gain skills and knowledge is commendable. Their focus on grassroots development and community projects is essential to drive sustainable development, and their international volunteer exchange programme provides a unique opportunity for young people to learn about different cultures and gain valuable life experiences.
