University of Eastern Africa, Baraton

The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) is a renowned private coeducational Seventh-day Adventist university located in the scenic town of Baraton, just a short distance from Eldoret in Kenya. This institution offers a broad range of graduate and undergraduate programs across diverse fields, including Business, Humanities, Agriculture, Technology, Health Sciences, and Education. As part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s education system, UEAB is committed to providing a holistic Christian education that equips young people with the skills they need to serve God and humanity. The university’s mission is to nurture and develop students’ spiritual, academic, and social growth, ensuring that they become responsible and engaged citizens.UEAB is the first private university in Kenya to receive a charter granted by the Republic of Kenya, which highlights the institution’s excellence in higher education. The university is also accredited by the Commission for Higher Education, Kenya Government, and is a proud member of the Inter-University Council for East Africa, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Association of African Universities. The university’s history dates back to the early days of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s establishment in East Africa. Over time, the church established numerous primary and secondary schools, some of which offered post-secondary education. However, none of these institutions provided a full bachelor’s degree program, necessitating the establishment of a full-fledged university in the region. In 1978, the Board of the Afro-Mideast Division of Seventh-day Adventists decided to establish a university in Kenya. The Kenyan government then allotted the Baraton Animal Husbandry Research Station to the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the purpose of founding UEAB. Classes began in 1980 in temporary farm structures, which have since been replaced with new and modern buildings.Today, UEAB hosts a local research centre of the Ellen G. White Estate, and faculty and students engage in research in areas such as biological science, agriculture, environmental science, and technology. The university has a rich history of great scholars, including notable educationist Prof. Ron Mackenzie and entomologist Prof. Mutuku Mutinga, who have served as vice-chancellors.Overall, UEAB is an outstanding institution of higher learning that is dedicated to providing quality Christian education to its students. Whether you are looking to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies, UEAB is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a world-class education.
