The University of Kabianga, located in the Kericho West District of Kenya, is a relatively new institution with a rich history. Situated in the Kabianga Complex, the university is built on the site of the Kabianga Farmers Training Centre, which was established in 1959 as an agricultural training facility for farmers in the South Rift and beyond.
In May 2007, the Kabianga Farmers Training Centre became the Kabianga Campus of Moi University, and in May 2009, the campus was elevated to a university college. It was awarded a charter in March 2013, becoming a fully-fledged university.
The university is located in the tea-growing highlands of Kericho, surrounded by the Kipsigis community known for mixed farming, with the main agricultural activity being dairy farming. The university is situated within the proximity of multinational tea growing companies such as Unilever, James Finlay, and George Williamson.
The University of Kabianga offers a wide range of academic programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels through its schools, including the School of Science & Technology, Information Science & Knowledge Management, Education, Directorate of Gender, Business & Economics, Arts & Social Sciences, Agriculture & Biotechnology, and Natural Resources & Environmental Management.
