Utumishi Academy, a renowned educational institution located in East Africa, has a remarkable history rooted in a vision of empowering the boy child. From its humble beginnings in the early 1960s to its current status as a national school, Utumishi Academy has continuously strived for excellence and honor in providing quality education.The school’s inception took place in 1991, under the guidance of the late Mr. Philip Kilonzo, then Commissioner of Police. A visionary leader, he recognized the need to establish a school specifically for the children of police officers. On May 30th, 1991, the first steering committee was formed, with Hon. Elijah Sumbeiywo, a former Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police, appointed as its Chairman. In December 1992, Mr. Willie M. Mugoh became the school’s first Principal, leading a dedicated team of twelve teachers. On January 26th, 1993, Utumishi Academy welcomed its first cohort of 80 boys and girls. Initially, the primary school section served as their temporary accommodation while the construction of the main school complex was underway. The boys’ dormitory and the school dining hall were set up using timber structures in the Anti Stock Theft Unit Police lines.With the growing number of students, it became evident that the primary section facilities were insufficient to meet the school’s needs. Consequently, in January 1995, Utumishi Academy relocated to the newly completed complex structures. Although construction faced a temporary halt between April 1994 and October 1997, the school’s progress remained unhindered. Over the years, it has expanded its physical infrastructure and achieved commendable academic performance. Following Mr. Mugoh’s transfer, Mr. Peters Orega assumed the role of the school head, carrying forward the institution’s commitment to excellence. Currently, Dr. Samuel G. Maina serves as the Principal, spearheading Utumishi Academy’s pursuit of its mission and vision.Utumishi Academy’s motto, “Strive for Excellence and Honor,” encapsulates its core values.The school aims to provide an exceptional educational experience for the boy child, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to excel in life.
