Victory Primary School

Victory Primary School is a beacon of hope for the Buhoma community and its surrounding areas, offering quality and affordable education to its students. The school is located just a seven-minute drive from the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the natural habitat of the endangered mountain gorillas. This provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about the environment and conservation efforts. The school has 10 classes, from nursery to primary 7, and operates from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm. Students receive a holistic education that includes core subjects such as Literacy, Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies, as well as Physical Education, Art, Drama, and Music. The school caters to both day students and boarders, with approximately 200 students currently enrolled, split equally between the two categories. At Victory Primary School, education is not just about academic performance. The school has a set of educational goals that aim to develop students’ moral and spiritual skills, enable them to communicate in English, and build strong relationships between students and teachers. The school also provides a range of experiences that enhance employability, contribute to a greater understanding of global issues, and build strength of character.Victory Primary School has an outstanding academic performance record and is one of the top-performing schools in the district. Every year, students sit for their final Primary 7 exams, and are ranked on a scale of 1 to 4, with 1 being the highest. Students who fail to meet the pass mark receive a ‘U’, while those who miss the exams altogether receive an ‘X’.Despite the challenges, Victory Primary School has come a long way since its inception in 2006, starting with only two semi-permanent classrooms for 38 students. The school has experienced a phenomenal growth in enrolment numbers, with 292 students currently enrolled. Many of the students are orphans or come from low socio-economic backgrounds, with families living below the poverty line. The school’s growth has been made possible by generous donors, including Sustain for Life (UK), GWR Foundation, and Deborah Crabbe (USA), among others.
