Located in the heart of Tanzania’s Bondeni Settlement scheme, within the Kaloleni Ward of Voi Sub-County, Voi Girls Education Centre stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for young women. Since its establishment in February 2013, this remarkable institution has been instrumental in transforming the lives of girls in the region, providing them with quality education and fostering their personal growth. Under the able leadership of Principal Elfrida Mkombola, Voi Girls Education Centre has flourished. With a dedicated team of 18 Teacher Service Commission (TSC) teachers, 3 Board of Management (BOM) employees, and 20 non-teaching staff, the school operates smoothly and efficiently. The collaborative efforts of the operational Board of Management and the Parents Teachers Association further contribute to the school’s success. As a fully registered day and boarding school, Voi Girls Education Centre accommodates the educational needs of a diverse group of girls. With a boarding capacity of 261 girls and a day capacity of 340, the school currently enrolls a total of 601 girls. This remarkable growth is a testament to the institution’s commitment to providing accessible education to as many girls as possible. Academically, Voi Girls Education Centre has consistently demonstrated excellence. The school’s first group of girls, comprising 171 students, sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in 2016. Their impressive performance, with a mean score of 2.4 in the Matiangi’s era, showcased the dedication of both students and teachers. Furthermore, two girls from this group earned direct entry to the university, a remarkable achievement. Building upon this success, subsequent groups of students have continued to excel. In 2017, 97 girls sat for the KCSE examinations and posted a mean score of 2.4639, representing a commendable increase of 0.0195. The following year, a group of 129 girls achieved a mean score of 2.7734, marking a significant rise of 0.3095. With the current group of 109 girls preparing for the KCSE examinations, Voi Girls Education Centre is optimistic about achieving a higher mean score, aiming for 5.0 or above. Beyond academics, Voi Girls Education Centre is committed to holistic development. The school operates under the 8-4-4 curriculum, with dedicated departments and passionate teachers who provide effective instruction. Embracing digital technology, the institution has introduced internet-based learning, overhead projectors, and computer usage, ensuring that students receive a modern and comprehensive education. Nourishing the minds and bodies of its students, Voi Girls Education Centre offers a balanced diet that includes breakfast, lunch, and supper. The school understands the importance of physical well-being and encourages participation in sports, including athletics and ball games. Additionally, students have demonstrated their talent in music and drama, earning numerous accolades and fostering a vibrant artistic community within the school. Voi Girls Education Centre goes beyond its academic and extracurricular achievements by instilling a sense of social responsibility in its students. Through initiatives like environmental cleaning projects in the local slum areas of Tanzania, the school nurtures a spirit of compassion, empathy, and citizenship.
