Youth Alive Uganda (YAU) is a remarkable organization that has been making a significant impact in Uganda since its establishment in 1993. The organization was founded by a group of young people who wanted to address the social and health issues facing the youth, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS.With the guidance of Sr. Dr. Miriam Duggan, YAU was established in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb that was severely affected by a variety of health and social problems.YAU’s mission is to provide young people with the resources they need to make informed decisions about their health and future.Over the past few years, YAU has integrated various programs that focus on health, livelihoods, human rights, and skills development. This has allowed the organization to respond to the evolving needs of the youth in Uganda.YAU’s youth-friendly HIV prevention strategy has been particularly effective in reducing the spread of the disease among young people. The organization’s approach is holistic and involves educating young people about the risks associated with HIV/AIDS and how to protect themselves.YAU has also been providing free testing and counseling services to young people across Uganda.YAU’s impact goes beyond HIV prevention, as the organization has been working to address other pressing issues that affect young people.Through its livelihoods programs, YAU has been providing training and resources to help young people develop sustainable businesses. The organization has also been advocating for the rights of young people, particularly girls, to ensure that they have equal access to education and other opportunities.Youth Alive Uganda is an organization that is making a significant impact in Uganda. Its youth-friendly approach and holistic programs have allowed it to address a variety of issues that affect young people. With its presence in over 75 districts, YAU is well-positioned to continue its important work and empower Uganda’s youth, one step at a time.
