Empowering Communities for 15 Years!

In 2003, Action for Community Development (ACODEV) started as a Community-Based Organization in Kasese, Uganda, with the aim of contributing to the alleviation of challenges created by the HIV/AIDS scourge and mitigating the adverse effects of war in the region. Over the years, ACODEV has expanded its reach and services, and today it is a leading organization working towards the empowerment of communities in East and Central Africa. With headquarters in Kasangati, Kampala, ACODEV has been at the forefront of providing Reproductive and Child Health services in the region. In 2014, the organization achieved a major milestone in this area by adopting the understanding by the World Health Organization that Reproductive Health implies that people are able to have a responsible, satisfying, and safer sex life and that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide if, when and how often to do so. As ACODEV celebrates its 15th anniversary, it is clear that the organization has made a significant impact on the lives of people in the communities it serves. From providing essential health services to promoting education and sustainable livelihoods, ACODEV has been at the forefront of changing people’s lives for the better. At ACODEV, the focus is on empowering communities to take charge of their own development. The organization works closely with local leaders and community members to identify their needs and priorities and to develop sustainable solutions. This approach has proven successful, and ACODEV’s impact can be seen in the improved health, education, and economic well-being of the communities it serves. As ACODEV looks to the future, it is clear that the organization will continue to play a vital role in the development of East and Central Africa.
