African Institute for Culture and Ecology [AFRICE] is a non-governmental organization that has made it their mission to work alongside communities in East and Central Africa to revive their knowledge and practices of food, land, and ecosystem conservation.Founded in 2016 and fully registered with the Uganda NGO board in 2017, AFRICE has been working tirelessly to empower indigenous communities and strengthen their cultural practices for the conservation of food, land, and natural heritage.AFRICE’s dedication to the conservation of food, land, and natural heritage is reflected in their two program areas, which currently span across three communities in East and Central Africa. These communities include the Bagungu of Buliisa along Lake Albert, the Banyabutumbi of Rukungiri along Lake Edward, and the Basese of Kalangala island in Lake Victoria.Through these programs, AFRICE has been able to work hand-in-hand with indigenous communities to build sustainable practices that protect their natural resources and cultural heritage.One of the key ways that AFRICE has been able to achieve this is by focusing on the revitalization of indigenous practices and knowledge. By doing so, AFRICE has been able to empower communities to take charge of their own food systems and work towards building sustainable futures.Through the sharing of knowledge and skills, AFRICE has been able to help communities to build strong relationships with their environments and ensure that their cultural practices are maintained for generations to come.The work that AFRICE is doing is incredibly important, not just for the communities they work with, but for the planet as a whole. By building sustainable practices and ensuring the preservation of cultural heritage, AFRICE is helping to create a better future for all.
