Description

Angal Hospital: Providing Quality Healthcare to Communities in Northern UgandaLocated in the rural village of Angal in Nebbi District, Angal Hospital is a non-profit, community hospital owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nebbi. Established in the early 1940s as a maternity center by the Comboni Missionaries, the facility has grown to become a fully accredited hospital with a bed capacity of 260.The hospital serves patients from Nebbi District, as well as from the neighboring districts of Arua and Zombo, and even from the neighboring countries of South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The hospital provides a wide range of medical services, including maternal and child health, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and emergency care. One of the most remarkable things about Angal Hospital is its commitment to providing healthcare to all, regardless of their ability to pay. Although the hospital depends on donations and subsidies from the Ugandan government to meet its financial obligations, it charges only a small fee for its services and no one is turned away because of inability to pay. During the financial year 2007/2008, the hospital’s total expenses were USh 1,305,503,208/= (Approx. US$524,914), with only 8.1% of the total being recovered from patient user fees.Angal Hospital is staffed by 153 full-time medical and support staff, who are committed to providing high-quality healthcare to their patients. The hospital is accredited by the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau and is administered by the Comboni Missionaries, a religious congregation.
