Initially founded as Fort Portal School of Medical Assistants (MATS) at the king’s palace, the institution has come a long way and has undergone several transformations to become what it is today.Located in the heart of Fort Portal Municipality Kabarole District, FPCOHES is now situated on Mugurusi Road, adjacent to the Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital. The college’s strategic location allows students to acquire practical skills from the hospital, making them well-equipped to handle real-world situations.The institution has grown in leaps and bounds over the years and has made tremendous developmental strides in terms of infrastructure, staffing, courses offered, and student enrollment. In 1984, the school’s curriculum underwent a review, leading to a name change from Fort Portal School of Medical Assistants to Fort Portal School of Clinical Officers. Today, the institution is known as Fort Portal College of Health Sciences.One of the unique features of FPCOHES is its commitment to equipping students with practical skills by placing them in rural health facilities in the Rwenzori region, pharmaceutical industries in the central region, and Lacor Hospital in Northern Uganda.
