Masindi General Hospital has been serving the people of Western Uganda for over a century. Established in 1922, it started as a health aid post for the workers of the East African Railways and has since grown into a 160-bed general hospital. The hospital serves patients from several districts in Uganda, including Masindi, Buliisa, Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Hoima, and Nebbi. It is also a preferred choice for patients from neighboring countries like South Sudan and eastern DR Congo.The hospital offers comprehensive medical services, including gynecology, surgery, pediatrics, and general medicine. Its staff comprises well-trained and experienced healthcare professionals who are committed to providing quality care to patients. The hospital’s gynecology department has 54 beds, making it one of the largest in the region.Masindi General Hospital is conveniently located in the town of Masindi, in Masindi District, in Bunyoro sub-region. It is about 56 kilometers northeast of Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. Patients can easily access the hospital by road, and the hospital’s GPS coordinates are 01°41’07.0″N, 31°42’48.0″E.The hospital’s history is intertwined with that of Uganda, having been acquired by the colonial government in 1935 and later handed over to the government of Uganda in 1965. The hospital has undergone several upgrades over the years, with the latest being the addition of gynecology beds in 2008. The hospital’s bed capacity currently stands at 160, making it one of the largest hospitals in the region.
