Mountains of the Moon University

Nestled at the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, lies the Mountains of the Moon University (MMU). Originally founded as a private, non-profit institution, MMU has since become a public university, offering quality education to students in Uganda.Located in the Kibundaire neighborhood, just a stone’s throw away from Fort Portal’s central business district, MMU’s campus provides a serene and conducive environment for learning. And for those who seek an even more tranquil setting, the university is currently constructing a new campus at Lake Saaka, which promises to offer an idyllic backdrop for academic pursuits.MMU is a university with a unique history, having been granted a license by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education in 2005. As a community trust university, MMU has no specific affiliations, and is governed by a board of trustees that includes local district councils, religious bodies, and supportive individuals.The university’s courses are structured to develop analytical and applied skills, with students undertaking assessed field work during the recess term. Additionally, all students complete three hours of hands-on computer studies each week, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary technological skills for success in the modern world.MMU’s Centre for African Developmental Studies is a testament to the university’s commitment to research and innovation. The centre aims to create African knowledge and understanding, and to suggest how this can be applied to inform development in an African context.
