Technical University of Mombasa

Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) is a renowned public university located in the bustling coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya Tudor, along Tom Mboya avenue. With a rich history that dates back to the late 1940s, TUM is among the oldest institutions of higher learning in Kenya, and was awarded its charter in 2013 by then-president Mwai Kibaki, elevating it to a fully-fledged university.

TUM offers a wide range of programs through its several schools, including the School of Engineering and Technology, School of Applied and Health Sciences, School of Business, Institute of Computing and Informatics, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Medicine, and the Institute of Research, Innovation and Extension (ARIE). It began as the Mombasa Institute of Muslim Education (MIOME) in the late 1940s, offering technical education to Muslim students of East Africa. Over time, it evolved and changed its name several times, becoming Mombasa Technical Institute (MTI) in 1966 and then Mombasa Polytechnic in 1976. In 2007, it was elevated to a university college, becoming the Mombasa Polytechnic University College (MPUC).
